Understanding the Challenge

The waste component of project overrun is an avoidable crisis. When the financial disaster and project delay is reported in the media it often becomes a headline, but quickly fades from public attention as we heard the same story just dressed up differently.

Companies and Governments are left dealing with the cash flow crisis and issue of finding ways to fund the short fall, managing the delays and supplementing key resources that will be tied up and unavailable for some time.

This pain leads to the directive of the executives to fix these errors, which they attend to, but fail to implement a sustainable long-term solution. With each new project, different mistakes arise -yet fundamentally they still stem from the same underlying issues. The board is left asking the same question, ‘why do we continue to make the same mistakes when we identified them and fix them?’.

Any solution to the global habit of project overrun must come from a considerable appreciation and ability to prevail over the deadly project sins the world has made a habit of making. My deep dive into the sins revealed that they come from every level, at every stage of the project life cycle.

Thus, the solution required must be an all-encompassing boardroom to coalface imperative that requires the project mastery of an appropriately appointed project director who leads as a large business and has CEO level decision-making and judgement skills and applies both the art and science to project delivery.

I am uniquely placed to advise steering committees and owner’s rep. companies as I just described my skill set, but further, I know what great looks like at every level and every phase of very large projects and how to achieve it.

My life’s lessons that led me towards being a global citizen saw me undertake activities that more broadly address project overrun which many point to and I believe, is a global crisis.

My activities required a means to effectively communicate proven ways that address global project overrun to bridge the gap in communicating the requirement to different countries and their culture’s and practices.

My Book

My book Avoiding $Billion Project Failures’ tells the story, but effectively I took myself off-line spending a year analysing, appraising and forming the deadliest project sins that cause global project overrun and a further five years completely mapping and codifying the knowledge that addresses the issues and presenting them on what I have termed, Visual Intelligence Maps.
